A vast majority of network marketers lack basic prospecting skills, it is not their fault it is a common problem in an industry where there is little training available. Most people even have a fear of getting on the phone and that is still one of the most important skills you can have.

The best way to overcome this is simple to educate yourself, when you understand something you tend not to fear it. So with that in mind I am going to give you an understanding of your prospect and how to talk to them.

The first lesson is on understanding your prospects personality type , I prefer to label the four types by season….

Knowing your prospect’s personality type is important so you can know who you are talking to and how to adapt to and deal with them. If you can identify and then adapt to your prospects type then you stand much more chance of actually establishing a connection with them than you would otherwise.

So what are the types..

Water

Your water personality types are usually somewhat quite shy, timid and not very outgoing.  They are nurturing and often put others before themselves. They  listen a lot. They are not very direct, meaning if you ask them a question they may tell you just enough but not volunteer anymore information than that.  But they are very open and agreeing, although they may need or desire to get approval before making certain decisions, especially major ones or ones involving money.

Water personality types are usually your nurses, school teachers, caregivers, homemakers, flight attendants, etc.

Wind

Wind personality types will probably be your most favorite person to talk to, depending on your personality.  They are very fun-loving, often the life of the party.  They laugh a lot, tell jokes and they are very open and direct.  If you ask them a question, they will not only tell you what you wanted to know, but might even go even further into things you don’t necessarily want to know.  In other words, they can be very talkative!

Ice

Ice personality types are very analytical!  They must know all the facts, all the details and will ask plenty of questions before making a final decision on something. Ice types are usually indirect and closed.  They may not volunteer information as freely and openly as a ‘water’ would so you may have to dig a little deeper with them when prospecting.

They usually suffer from a severe case of “paralysis of analysis”!

Ice are usually your Programmers, Accountants, Engineers, Scientists, basically people who crunch numbers and work with figures and facts.

Fire

And finally we have our  ‘fire personality’!  Depending on your personality or your understanding of the various types and how to handle them, fire personality types may be your least favorite to talk to.  They are definitely the ones you want to have on your team because they GET THINGS DONE!  Fire types  are your leaders.

So now you have an understanding of your prospect, naturally you will have to practice this skill and the more phoning you do the better you will get at talking to people.

Do not worry about calling people understand that you know more than they do already, just reading this training will do that for you. Lead from a position of strength remember it is they who need you not you who needs them.

Once you learn to do this you will relax and start to enjoy the phone and that is when you will start to put leads into your company.

If there is one thing you must remember it is this “Your Product Is People”
